Overview
HMRC Borders & Trade is driving a strategic transition to AWS-native data platforms to modernise Legacy on-premise data warehouse estates and enable scalable, governed data sharing and analytics across Border services. This engagement will support the delivery of a prototype Borders-specific Data Landing Zone (DLZ) capability in AWS, aligned to patterns established under the wider DWIT programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead delivery of the TASFIS (Trade Access System/Ferry Information System) prototype pipeline into the Borders & Trade AWS Data Landing Zone.
- Manage the migration of TASFIS data from the Open Road/Actian Platform (Ingres Database) into AWS-native services.
- Oversee the design, build and operationalisation of DevOps pipelines to support production deployment.
- Embed product-led, agile ways of working across delivery teams.
- Ensure delivery assurance, risk management, governance and reporting aligned to HMRC standards.
- Coordinate with the wider programme responsible for decommissioning the Actian platform and services.
- Facilitate knowledge transfer and capability uplift within HMRC teams to ensure sustainable ownership post-delivery.
Objectives
- Reduce reliance on Legacy Open Road/Actian infrastructure and associated licence/support costs.
- Deliver a production-ready, repeatable AWS-native data ingestion and transformation pattern.
- Establish a scalable framework that can be extended across additional Borders & Trade use cases.
Experience Required
- Proven Delivery Manager experience within large-scale government or regulated environments.
- Strong background in cloud data platform migrations, preferably AWS-native architectures.
- Experience delivering DevOps-enabled data pipelines into production.
- Knowledge of Legacy data warehouse environments and migration strategies.
- Demonstrable experience embedding agile, product-led delivery models.
