Role Summary

An established organisation is seeking an experienced Interim Data Governance Lead to take ownership of its data governance framework during a critical period of change. This is a hands-on role focused on bringing structure, control, and clarity to how data is defined, owned, protected, and used across the business.

You will work closely with IT, data, legal, compliance, and senior business stakeholders to embed governance standards while enabling the organisation to continue using data at pace.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and implement a pragmatic data governance framework covering policies, standards, and controls

  • Define and embed data ownership, stewardship, and accountability across key data domains

  • Establish data quality standards, metrics, and remediation processes

  • Oversee data classification, retention, and access controls in line with GDPR and internal policies

  • Partner with technology and data teams to ensure governance is embedded in platforms, reporting, and change initiatives

  • Support regulatory, audit, and risk requirements relating to data

  • Chair or contribute to data governance forums and working groups

  • Produce clear documentation, guidance, and stakeholder communications

What We’re Looking For
  • Proven experience as a Data Governance Lead / Manager in an interim or transformation context

  • Strong working knowledge of data governance, data quality, metadata, and master data concepts

  • Solid understanding of GDPR, data privacy, and information security principles

  • Experience operating in complex, multi-stakeholder organisations

  • Ability to balance control with commercial and operational realities

  • Confident communicator who can influence senior stakeholders

  • Hands-on, delivery-focused, and comfortable working with ambiguity

Nice to Have
  • Experience in regulated or data-heavy sectors

  • Exposure to data transformation, ERP, CRM, or analytics programmes

  • Familiarity with data governance tooling or catalogues
