Network Engineer - Farnborough - Contract
Rate: £400-500/day Outside IR35
Overview
Fuel Recruitment is supporting a leading technology-focused organisation in the National Security and Defence sector that is looking for an experienced Network Engineer. This role offers the chance to work with modern networking technologies across LAN, WAN, Data Centre and Security environments. You'll be joining a collaborative engineering function where innovation, Secure-by-Design principles and hands-on technical work are at the core. It's an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys both building and supporting complex networks while exploring emerging solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement, support, and maintain LAN and global WAN environments
- Configure and manage routing protocols including OSPF and BGP
- Develop and implement Firewall rules based on application and security requirements
- Create and maintain configuration guides, HLDs and LLDs
- Support VPN and network security infrastructure, including IKEv2 and next-generation Firewalls
- Lab, test, and proof-of-concept new network technologies
Key Skills/Experience
Essential:
- Strong experience with Wide Area Network architecture
- Hands-on expertise with OSPF and BGP
- Proven ability with VPNs and network security technologies (eg IKEv2, NGFWs)
- Ability to implement configurations from High-Level and Low-Level Designs
- Comfortable using CLI and working in lab/POC environments
Desirable:
- Knowledge of Data Centre network architectures (Spine/Leaf, EVPN, BGP, Geneve)
- Experience with High Assurance IP Encryptors (HAIPE)
- Familiarity with automation/orchestration tools (eg Ansible, Terraform)
- Exposure to whitebox networking (Mellanox, Cumulus Linux, Nvidia Networking)
- Support experience with VMware NSX
- Cisco CCNP certification or equivalent experience
