CMDB ExpertLocation: Remote (with occasional travel to Cheshire)Duration: 12 Months (with potential for extension)Start Date: February 2026Rate: Competitive Day Rate (Outside IR35) or FTC salaryRole OverviewWe are looking for an experienced CMDB Expert to spearhead the maturation of our Configuration Management practice. You will be responsible for ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and health of our IT ecosystem’s ʺsingle source of truth.ʺAs we move into 2026, our clients estate is increasingly complex, spanning legacy on-premise infrastructure and dynamic multi-cloud environments. We need a specialist who doesn't just ʺmanageʺ a database but understands how to architect a data model that supports automated service delivery and robust security posture.Key Responsibilities
- CMDB Governance & Strategy: Define and implement the end-to-end Configuration Management process, ensuring alignment with ITIL 4 frameworks.
- Data Integrity & Health: Design and monitor health dashboards focused on the ʺThree Csʺ: Completeness, Correctness, and Compliance.
- Discovery & Integration: Manage automated discovery tools (e.g., ServiceNow Discovery, BMC Helix, or Azure/AWS native tools) and integrate 3rd party data sources using Identification and Reconciliation Engines (IRE).
- Service Mapping: Build and maintain complex relationship maps to provide clear visibility into business service dependencies.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with Change, Incident, and Asset Management teams to ensure the CMDB provides actionable value across the IT lifecycle.
- Audit & Remediation: Lead regular audits of the CMDB data and drive remediation activities to close gaps.
Your Technical Toolkit
- Platform Expertise: Deep hands-on experience with major ITSM platforms (ServiceNow preferred, but BMC Helix or similar considered).
- Discovery Tools: Proven track record in configuring automated discovery and service mapping in hybrid-cloud environments.
- CSDM Knowledge: A strong understanding of the Common Service Data Model (CSDM) and how to apply it to drive business outcomes.
- Data Literacy: Expert-level skills in data normalization, reconciliation rules, and SQL or similar query languages.
- Soft Skills: The ability to translate complex technical dependencies into clear business impact for stakeholders in Cheshire and beyond.
Working Pattern
- Remote-First: This role is primarily remote.
- Face-to-Face: You will be required to travel to our Cheshire office for key project milestones, strategy workshops, or team-building sessions (typically 2-3 days per month).
