VMware Engineer at Circle Group, Manchester, £500-£600 per day

Role: VMware Engineer
Salary/Rate: £500-600 per day outside IR35
Location: Mainly remote
Contract Duration: approx. 5 months

We're working with a highly respected organisation operating in a complex, security-focused environment, looking to bring in an experienced VMware Engineer to support the design, build and improvement of enterprise-scale hypervisor platforms.

This role would suit someone who enjoys working across design, build and automation, with a strong focus on secure infrastructure and repeatable processes.

This VMware Engineer role is mainly remote, with occasional UK office visits as required by the business. The contract for the VMware Engineer position is for 100 days, with potential to extend, operating outside IR35.

Security Clearance: Security Check ('SC Clearance')

Essential skills/experience required:

• Strong hands-on experience designing and building hypervisor platforms
• Solid knowledge of VMware technologies and virtual machine configuration
• Experience working with Active Directory and patching/update mechanisms
• Understanding of secure infrastructure environments and associated risks
• Comfortable working with documentation, standards and repeatable delivery patterns
• Exposure to infrastructure automation tools such as Ansible (desirable)

Role/responsibilities:

You'll play a key part in designing and delivering the first working iterations of secure hypervisor platforms, supporting the introduction of new virtualisation technologies and ensuring they integrate seamlessly with existing tooling and infrastructure.

• Design and build secure hypervisor environments (ESXi and related technologies)
• Support the deployment and secure configuration of central virtualisation services
• Implement design outputs identified during testing and assurance activities
• Prepare, upgrade and deploy hypervisor hosts remotely
• Identify, document and communicate residual risks identified during design and implementation
• Provide clear technical handovers, including build documentation and recorded knowledge transfer
• Develop repeatable and automated build processes to ensure consistency across environments
• Produce clear build guides, FAQs, testing procedures and rollback plans
• Contribute to the definition of performance and risk metrics for both build activity and ongoing operations

You'll be hands-on throughout the lifecycle - from early design considerations and testing, through to deployment, documentation and handover.
