Contract Data Architect
Location: London (Hybrid)
Contract Length: 12 Months
Rate: £800 per day (Outside IR35)
A leading business based in London is seeking an experienced Contract Data Architect to support a major transformation initiative. The role will play a critical part in a carve-out programme, helping to define and deliver a robust, scalable data architecture that supports business separation, continuity, and future growth.
Role Overview
The Data Architect will be responsible for designing, governing, and implementing enterprise-level data architecture across the organisation. Working closely with senior stakeholders, technology teams, and third-party vendors, the consultant will ensure data platforms, models, and integrations align with strategic objectives and Microsoft-based technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of end-to-end data architecture for a complex carve-out programme
- Define target-state data architecture, including data models, integration patterns, and governance frameworks
- Assess current-state data landscapes and develop transition roadmaps to support business separation
- Ensure data security, compliance, and integrity throughout the carve-out process
- Collaborate with business, product, and engineering teams to translate requirements into scalable data solutions
- Provide architectural guidance and assurance across multiple workstreams
- Support migration, decommissioning, and data separation activities
- Produce clear architectural documentation, standards, and design artefacts
Required Experience & Skills
- Proven experience working as a Data Architect on large-scale transformation programmes
- Demonstrable carve-out or business separation programme experience (essential)
- Strong hands-on experience with the Microsoft technology stack, including:
- Azure (Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL, Azure Data Lake)
- SQL Server and related data platforms
- Power BI (desirable)
- Strong understanding of data governance, master data management, and data integration
- Experience designing cloud-based, scalable, and secure data architectures
- Ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders and technical teams
- Excellent documentation and communication skills
Desirable
- Experience within complex, regulated, or enterprise-scale environments
- Background in mergers, acquisitions, or divestments
- Familiarity with data migration and platform modernisation
