Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior AWS DevOps Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, building and evolving our AWS cloud infrastructure and ensuring its reliability, scalability, and security. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in AWS services, automation tools, and DevOps practices. We are looking for someone who is passionate about technology, enjoys problem-solving, and has a collaborative mindset.
Working Hours:
Regular Hours (Monday-Friday):
9:00 AM – 6:00 PM (8 hours plus a lunch break).
Scheduled Out-of-Hours Deployments:
- Occur 1-2 evenings per week, Monday-Friday, scheduled in advance.
- On deployment days, work hours will shift to 3:00 PM – 11:59 PM (8 hours plus a 1 hour break).
Occasional Unplanned Call-Outs:
- In addition to standard working hours, the role requires the ability to respond to urgent calls within 20 minutes and log in to necessary tooling to address issues.
- Call-outs are typically resolved by working through the issue until completion.
On-Call Requirements:
- Participation in an on-call rota, covering one week on, one week off.
- On-call hours: 6:00 PM – 12:00 AM, Monday-Friday (excluding public holidays).
Compensation for On-Call Days:
- An additional £150 per day will be provided for on-call availability, regardless of whether you are contacted.
- If called out during on-call hours, you will be expected to resolve the issue fully.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement and maintain cloud infrastructure on AWS
- Develop and implement automated tools and processes for building, deployment, monitoring, testing and maintenance of infrastructure and applications
- Develop and maintain policies and procedures for security, compliance, and disaster recovery
- Optimise infrastructure for high availability, fault tolerance, and cost efficiency
- Continuously monitor and improve infrastructure and application performance
- Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure and application issues
- Manage and mentor junior DevOps engineers
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- 5+ years of experience in AWS cloud infrastructure design, implementation, and management
- Proficient programming skills in at least one language, preferably Python or Go
- Extensive experience of deploying cloud platforms at scale using AWS Organisations / Control Tower / Landing Zones
- Expert level experience with Infrastructure as Code tooling such as Ansible, CloudFormation or Terraform
- Extensive background in Configuration Management and Automation
- Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix systems administration
- Expert level experience in AWS Networking / TCP / Firewalls / Certs
- Advanced proficiency with containers and container orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Observability champion, experience of designing and building monitoring and logging tools such as CloudWatch, ELK, and Grafana
- Strong scripting skills in Bash, JavaScript or similar Knowledge of SecDevOps security best practices and experience implementing security controls in a cloud environment including SIEM, Guard Duty, Shield, Inspector and Security Hub
- Experience with CI/CD pipeline development and management
- Best practice configuration of Identity and Access Management and IAM Identity Center
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS Speciality, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or AWS Professional Certification
- Experience with CDK and Typescript
- Experience with other cloud platforms such as Azure or GCP
- Experience with serverless architecture, frameworks and services such as SAM, Lambda and API Gateway
