£350-375 / Day (Outside IR35)


SQL DBA ( SQL / AWS / Redshift ) is needed to join a forward thinking innovative London based Insurance provider.


As the SQL DBA ( SQL / AWS / Redshift ) you will work as part of a busy BI team and help to put in place the core data marts that support analysis and reporting.


You be an expert on how data should be stored and modelled, to best suit how the data is used and services the business ' analysis and reporting requirements.


The company uses RedShift and DBT so you will need to understand how column store databases optimise data and also have strong SQL skills.


Responsibilities for the SQL DBA ( SQL / AWS / Redshift ) include:


  • Ensuring that data modelling is to a high standard across the organisation and producing logical and outline physical designs for target data warehouses.
  • Assess data availability, suitability and quality, identifying various weaknesses, inefficiencies and vulnerabilities within the current data network and look to implement solutions, that will allow for optimal access to data and valid visibility across all products for reporting purposes.
  • Working with engineers to build data contracts between our services and data warehouses.
  • Setting documentation and data quality standards, creating a business data glossary and other key user documentation.
  • Specify transformation, linking and data re-coding rules.
  • Coaching and training members of the data team in good practice.
  • Formulate plans for, and help manage, system testing and user acceptance testing.


Required skills and experience for the SQL DBA ( SQL / AWS / Redshift ) includes:


  • Experience and a passion in data warehousing, big data and ETL.
  • Strong SQL knowledge and understanding of data processing and modelling.
  • Creation of outline physical designs for data warehouses - targeting a relational DBMS, ideally SQL Server.
  • Confidence with SQL Server & Windows server, T-SQL, SSIS and SSRS, applying learnt principles and concepts to resolve issues as they arrive.
  • Experience of applying data to business transformation projects, measuring processes and progress towards outcomes.
  • Experience in using AWS and DBT.
  • Confidence in decision making and the ability to explain processes or choices as needed.
  • Experience with business intelligence, data analytics and data visualisation frameworks.
