Infrastructure Engineer - Exchange 2013/O365

What you'll need to succeed

About The Role

You will be supporting, maintaining and developing Messaging systems and supporting Remedy queues. You will be directly communicating with customers across the organisation to ensure service availability and deliver business outcomes. In addition you may be collaborating with technical and development teams to facilitate strategy and roadmap requirements, encompassing a unified approach to communication and messaging platforms, both on-premise and the Cloud.

Applicants should have demonstrable knowledge of being a technical SME, working in a large enterprise environment, working within governance controls, and hands-on knowledge of both supporting operational/business services and delivering technical solutions.

Skills Essential

  • Good understanding of Exchange 2013 (& onwards) platform, including all roles, architecture, design (for optimal performance) and Powershell.
  • Good understanding of Exchange Online, Exchange Online Protection and Microsoft Archiving
  • Good understanding of Microsoft Lync/Microsoft Teams/Skype For Business, both on-premise and online.
  • Good understanding of Microsoft Office (2010 & onwards) products, especially Outlook and Lync/Skype For Business.
  • Working knowledge of Symantec Enterprise Vault v11 (and onwards), Secure Email Gateway and Triton Forcepoint/MailControl
  • Good understanding of Cloud technologies (IAAS, PAAS, SAAS) such as Office 365, MS Azure, AWS.
  • Good understanding of how Messaging systems interface with each other, and core services such as DNS, Active Directory, PKI.
  • Good understanding of different presentation methods, connectivity and transport methods, such as OWA, ActiveSync, RPC over HTTPS, SMTP, UAG, TMG, Netscaler
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting and diagnosing problems/incidents for the above platforms and articulating/implementing the appropriate resolution. This may include articulating the resolution to a non-technical audience.


Skills Desirable

  • Good understanding of Group Policy and personalisation products such as AppSense and Ivanti
  • Good understanding of network configurations for Messaging systems, including Ports, NAT & load-balancing
  • Good understanding of Microsoft Windows Server Operating Systems (2012 onwards) and MS SQL (2012 onwards).
  • Good understanding of Virtualisation platforms and shared storage (SAN, NAS).
  • Good understanding of telephony systems and VoIP protocols


Additional Desirable Knowledge and/or Experience

  • Experience with an O365 migration (Exchange/Skype) very desirable
  • SQL skills would be advantageous for TransVault/Enterprise Vault
  • Strong PowerShell skills in managing Exchange/Skype/Teams
